In September, I got to add another new state to the list of places I’ve visited: it was my first time in New Hampshire! We were there for my cousin’s wedding reception and had a whole day to spend with uncle Alex exploring the area before wedding time. After consulting some lists of things to do in Holderness, NH, we decided to visit Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. We weren’t quite sure what to expect, and I’d say this place ended up exceeding our expectations quite a bit! It was really the perfect combination of museum, zoo, discovery center, and hiking trails—all in one! I was taken by the lovely and peaceful scenery right away.
And of course the pretty flowers!
We got to see tons of local native wildlife, including a coyote, deer, a bobcat… and so many more! We even heard a fascinating presentation all about porcupines (and got very close to one of those!)
Plus a lot of lovely birds!
There were so many interactive educational opportunities all along the way!
We weren’t expecting this fabulous playground! We were impressed that Afton was brave enough to go down this multi-story, curly tube slide!
This place is HUGE, and every inch was worth exploring! I think we could have spent twice as much time here and still never been bored. :)
Truth be told, we would’ve stayed longer if we hadn’t gotten so hungry! We had a tasty lunch (with a gorgeous view) at nearby Walter’s Basin Restaurant. Yum!
It was a great way to end this lovely outing. If you’re in the Holderness area, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is definitely a must-do!
Stay tuned for some more Northeastern adventures. :)
